How are the names of our pumps deciphered?

Among all the variety of fire and rescue equipment, pumps are the most important and complex type.

In fire and fire rescue vehicles for different purposes, different types of pumps are used, which usually differ in the principles of operation. The primary task of pumps is to supply water to extinguish fires.

However, pumps are also used in many auxiliary systems – vacuum, hydraulic elevators and more. The widespread use of pumps is due to their effectiveness in extinguishing fires and emergency response.
The company “POZHMASHINA” specializes not only in the manufacture of fire and rescue equipment, but also in the production of fire pumps, which differ in their technical characteristics.

The most common pumps in Ukraine are pumps such as NCP, NCPK and PN.

What in general distinguishes PN type pumps from NCP?

PN pumps (abbreviation stands for predictable – fire pump) is a more advanced version of NCP pumps (centrifugal fire pump)

During the development of PN pumps, the traditional scheme of pump execution was completely preserved, up to the location of the controls and all connection points. However, there was a significant improvement in the parameters and elimination of known shortcomings.

The main improvements of PN pumps are:

  •  increase in productivity (up to 60 l / s when working from hydrants and up to 50 l / s – from reservoirs);
  •  increase in pressure by 20% and 10% efficiency;
  •  according to productivity the capacity of the foam mixer is increased;
  • the improved design of the batcher of the foaming agent, thanks to the built-in reducer now there is a possibility to smoothly regulate concentration and to provide economic expense;
  • fundamentally redesigned stuffing box, it does not require any maintenance and consumables, and in terms of wear resistance and reliability has no analogues;
  • the pump is equipped with a full package of modern control and measuring devices and the built-in vacuum system like “ABC”

The most popular among consumers today are pumps NCP-40/100-RR, NCPK-40/100 – 4/400-RR and PN-60B-RR (model PN-60BA).
Let’s take a closer look at them.

Centrifugal, single-stage console pump NCP-40/100-RR

This pump is designed to supply water or a mixture of water with a foaming agent with a temperature of up to + 30 ° C

It is installed inside the bodies of special and fire trucks, is used in all climatic zones, in which the air temperature is not lower than + 5 ° С during operation.

The main characteristics of the pump are contained in its name and are deciphered as follows:

NCP – centrifugal fire pump

40 – nominal supply of the pump, l / s

100 – nominal pressure, m

P – type of dosing system control (manual)

P – type of control of vacuum suction system (manual)

As a rule, pumps of this type are installed on fire trucks with a stock of fire extinguishing substances up to 5 tons, although they can be installed on fire and rescue vehicles of different classes and types.

The centrifugal fire combined pump NCPK – 40/100 – 4/400 – P – P

Pumps of this class consist of two stages: normal and high pressure. The degree of normal pressure on a design and technical characteristics is identical to a design of the centrifugal fire pump of normal pressure of NCP-40/100

Supply and corresponding pressure in the degree of normal pressure of 40 l / s and 100 m, respectively, in the degree of high pressure – 4 l / s and 400 m.
The maximum suction depth is 7.5 m

It is used to complete fire trucks of all types (light, medium and heavy class), as well as first aid fire trucks, fire and rescue vehicles and other mobile and stationary installations used in firefighting. Experts agree that when installing a fire pump of this type. The functionality of a fire truck is significantly expanded, as it is possible to extinguish fires with normal pressure barrels, extinguishing with fine-spray jets, as well as the simultaneous use of normal and high pressure trunks.

Information on the technical characteristics of the pump is also contained in its name and is as follows ^

NCPK – the pump centrifugal fire combined

40 – nominal supply of the pump, l / s

100 – nominal pressure, m

4 – nominal supply of high pressure in l / s;

400 – nominal pressure of high pressure in m.

P – type of dosing system control (manual)

P – type of control of vacuum suction system (manual)

Pump centrifugal fire of normal pressure PN-60B-RR (PN-60BA model)

This pump is made in the form of a candy bar and includes the following elements

  •  centrifugal pump
  • collector with shut-off and regulating valves
  •  vacuum water filling system of autonomous type (working independently of the pump drive)
  •  foaming agent supply and dosing system
  •  a complete set of control and measuring devices mounted on the control panel (two manovacuummeters – at the inlet and outlet of the pump)
  • electronic tachometer and time counter – in the form of a single unit
  •  vacuum pump control panel.

Can be installed on fire and rescue vehicles of any class and is designed to supply water or a mixture of water with a foaming agent with a temperature of up to + 30 ° C. The location must be inside the bodies of special and fire trucks.

The main advantages of the PN-60 BA model are:

  1.  latches with flywheels made of anticorrosive materials, equipped with a handle for quick opening
  2.  ergonomic levers
  3.  suction pipe of smaller diameter (125 mm).
  4.  presence of the tank filling valve from the pump
  5. a new type of pipelines to manovacuummeters
  6.  improved vacuum system

The abbreviation of the name of the pump hides the technical characteristics, which are deciphered as follows

PN – fire pump

60 – nominal supply of the pump, l / s

P – type of dosing system control (manual)

P – type of control of vacuum suction system (manual)

A – housing material (aluminum)
